Corn and Soybean Digest 10-07-2018 - The crop progress report shows corn conditions fell a point from last week. This week’s report shows 75% of the crop is in good/excellent condition. Last week, 76% of the crop was in good/excellent condition.
So far, here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five corn producing states: Iowa (78%), Illinois (81%), Nebraska (86%), Minnesota (79%), Kansas (52%). Conditions fell in Illinois, Minnesota and Kansas this week.
Corn silking
The corn crop maturity continues to be ahead of schedule. The crop progress report shows 37% of the crop is silking across the country. The four-year average is 18%.
Illinois and Missouri producers report 76% of the corn is silking. Meanwhile, Indiana reports 49% followed by Kansas at 48%; Iowa at 35% and Ohio stands at 30%.
States behind the nation average include Michigan with 5%; Wisconsin and North Dakota at 6% and Minnesota at 8%.
Soybean conditions
The soybean crop is holding steady when it comes to the overall condition. Crop observers report 71% either in good/excellent condition. That’s the same as last week.
So far, here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five soybean producing states: Illinois (72%), Iowa (76%), Minnesota (75%), Nebraska (83%), North Dakota (81%). Conditions fell this week in Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska.
Soybeans blooming
Soybeans are moving fast when it comes to blooms. The crop progress report shows 47% blooming, compared to the four-year average of 27%. |
