Corn and Soybean Digest 17-07-2018 - The USDA crop progress report shows soybean conditions (good/excellent) fell two points from last week, from 71% to 69%.

So far, here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five soybean producing states: Illinois (73%), Iowa (75%), Minnesota (75%), Nebraska (83%), North Dakota (82%). The only state to fall in this group was Iowa, which dropped one point.

Corn condition

Corn conditions also declined from last week, losing 3 points, now at 72% in good/excellent condition.

Here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five corn producing states: Iowa (78%), Illinois (80%), Nebraska (86%), Minnesota (79%), Kansas (48%). Conditions fell in Illinois (by a point), Minnesota (by two) and Kansas (by four points).

Corn silking

Corn silking is way ahead of the average. This week’s report shows 63% in the silking stage. The four-year average for this week is 37%

Illinois is leading the Midwest with 93% and Michigan is struggling with 26%. However, even Michigan is ahead in maturity compared to the four-year average of 15%.

Soybeans blooming

According to the USDA, 65% of the soybeans are blooming, a whopping 20% above the average of 45%.

The three I-states are way above the average: Iowa (65%, up 20); Illinois (79%, up 31) and Indiana (70%, up 24). Most other states are up at least 10%, with Michigan and South Dakota closer to the four-year average.
